STANFORD, Calif. - With four Golden Bears reaching the singles quarterfinals and four doubles teams advancing, California completed a second straight strong day at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Saturday at Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Fifth-ranked and second-seeded Zsofi Susanyi led the Cal charge, winning twice in singles and pairing with Anett Schutting for a doubles victory.

One day after football's Big Game, each Sunday singles quarterfinal will pit a Golden Bear against a Stanford player: Susanyi vs. fifth-seeded Krista Hardebeck, Cal freshman Klara Fabikova vs. 13th-seeded Kristie Ahn, fourth-seeded and 22nd-ranked Schutting vs. eighth-seeded Ellen Tsay, and Cal's No. 32 and 10th-seeded Tayler Davis vs. third-seeded Stacey Tan.

On Saturday, the second day of the tournament, Susanyi, a sophomore, defeated Fresno State's Melissa McQueen, 6-1, 6-3, in the round of 32 and then San Francisco's Andrea Ka, 7-5, 6-3, in the round of 16. Schutting beat Saint Mary's Jade Frampton, 6-2, 6-1, and then Oregon's 15th-seeded Patricia Skowronski, 6-2, 6-1, to advance. Senior Annie Goransson - the nation's 42nd ranked player and the tournament's seventh seed - knocked off Megan Heneghan of UC Davis, 6-2, 6-4, but lost to Ahn, 7-5, 7-6 (4) in the round of 16.

Davis beat Audrey Leitz of Saint Mary's, 6-4, 6-0, before upsetting Washington State's sixth-seeded Liudmila Vasilieva, 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Lynn Chi - seeded 11th in the singles draw - topped Washington's Andjela Nemcevic, 6-1, 6-2, but lost to Hardebeck, 6-0, 6-1. Fabikova won her two matches on Saturday, beating Washington State's Elizaveta Luzina, 7-5, 6-3, and shutting out Washington's Elianne Douglas-Miron, 6-0, 6-0.

Two Bears lost in the round of 32, with junior Alice Duranteau dropping a 6-4, 6-3, decision to Washington's 16th-seeded Grace Ysidora and sophomore Cecilia Estlander falling to Tsay, 6-2, 6-2.

In the consolation singles round of 128, junior Kelly Chui topped Gonzaga's Alexandra Tallas, 6-2, 6-2, while sophomore Laura Posylkin fell to Washington State's Andjela Kankaras, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0.

All four Cal teams that played in the doubles round of 32 won on Saturday. The second-seeded pair of Schutting and Susanyi dominated San Francisco's Yuri Hashiguchi-Brooke Irish, 8-1; the fourth-seeded duo of Chi-Fabikova beat Sacramento State's Katharina Knoebl-Jennifer Nguyen, 8-4; Cal's sixth-seeded team of Davis-Goransson took out Stanford's Natalie Dillon-Hardebeck, 8-5; and Estlander-Posylkin knocked off Eastern Washington's Alexis Filliol-Chrissy Uriarte, 8-3.

The Sunday round of 16 in doubles includes Chi-Fabikova battling San Francisco's Sofia Holmberg-Ka, Estlander-Posylkin taking on Catherine Isip-Hannah Liljekvist, Davis-Goransson playing Nemcevic-Riko Shimizu, and Schutting-Susanyi facing Washington's Natali Coronel-Julija Lukac.
