COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team combined for five match victories in day two of the Lady Vol Classic in Knoxville, Tenn., Saturday. The Buckeyes were matched up against host Tennessee in singles and Kentucky in doubles in the hidden dual format tournament.
After dropping their doubles match Friday versus NC State, the Buckeye duo of Fidan Manashirova and Gabby Steele rallied to defeat Kentucky’s Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff and Khristina Blaikevitch, 8-5. The seniors also posted singles victories against Tennessee. Manashirova fought back after losing set one to Mimi Fotopoulos to win in three, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Steele topped Tiffany Tavares, 6-2, 6-2.
Freshman Grainne O’Neill claimed her first collegiate victory against UT’s Kayla McMurry in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Sophomore Kelsey Dieters defeated No. 18-ranked Brynn Boren, 6-2, 1-0, after Boren retired one game into the second set.
