ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia men’s tennis team will conclude its 2012 fall season with a pair of tournaments this weekend, as three Bulldogs will head to New York City for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships while the rest of the squad competes in the annual Bulldog Scramble at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Senior All-American KU Singh as well as junior Hernus Pieters and freshman Ben Wagland are New York-bound for the prestigious National Indoor Nov. 8-11 at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center – home of the US Open. Play begins Thursday and includes 32-player singles and 20-team doubles draws.

No. 10-ranked Singh (4-1) earned a place in the singles draw after reaching the semifinals of the ITA Men’s All-America Championship. Meanwhile, Pieters and Wagland – ranked No. 35 in the nation – are set for the doubles draw after winning the consolation title at All-Americans last month. The tandem is 7-1 on the fall season.

In 2011, Georgia’s Wil Spencer and Sadio Doumbia played each other for the consolation singles title at the National Indoors, with Spencer taking it 7-6(7), 6-3. Georgia has never had a player win the main draw, but three times a Bulldog has reached the final: Mikael Pernfors (1985), Mike Sell (1993), Bo Hodge (2003). Results will be available at ITATennis.com and at the conclusion of each day on Georgiadogs.com.

Meanwhile, the rest of the squad is gearing up for the annual Bulldog Scramble to be held Nov. 9-11 in Athens. The round robin event will feature players from Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and East Tennessee State. Play begins each of the three days at 9:30 a.m. Results will be posted to Georgiadogs.com.
