College Tennis News - Women's Tennis Records Another six Wins on Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women’s tennis team posted another six wins on Saturday, including two at the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. and another four at the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic in Sarasota, Fla.

Alexa Guarachi and Mary Anne Macfarlane saw their run in doubles come to an end at the National Indoors, dropping a hard-fought match to the No. 1 team in the nation in USC’s Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria, 6-2, 6-3. In singles, Guarachi cruised to a pair of wins, beating Penn State’s Petra Januskova, ranked No. 52 in the nation, 6-0, 6-1, and Columbia’s Nicole Bartnik, ranked 96th, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to Sunday’s singles consolation finals. Guarachi will now take on fourth-ranked Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar of Texas A&M on Sunday.

At the Clay Court Classic, all four of the Tide’s wins came in the singles consolation draw with Antonia Foehse winning both of her matches, while Yasmeen Ebada and Emily Zabor each won their first of two matches on the day. Foehse edged out Mississippi State’s Petra Ferancova in a nail biter, winning 7-6, 7-6, before beating teammate Ebada, 6-0, 6-4, to advance to the consolation finals. Prior to facing Foehse, Ebada downed Tennessee’s Jesse Grace, 6-0, 6-3. Zabor’s win came against Oklahoma State’s Malika Rose in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 10-5.

Matches will conclude on Sunday at both the National Indoors and the Clay Court Classic.
