KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Indiana women’s tennis team wrapped up play in the Western Michigan Super Challenge on Sunday.  For the weekend, Indiana won six of the 12 total flights, four in singles and two in doubles.  The Hoosiers tallied a 19-5 record in singles play and a 9-3 mark in doubles play during the three-day tournament.

No. 50 Leslie Hureau of Indiana won the title match in the top singles flight, dominating Louisville’s No. 120 Julia Fellerhoff, 6-1, 6-4.  Sophomore Katie Klyzcek earned the No. 2 singles draw title with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over DePaul’s Ana Vladutu.

IU’s Shannon Murdy defeated DePaul’s Rebeca Mitrea in straight sets to win the No. 5 singles flight, 6-3, 7-5.  The fourth Hoosier with a singles draw title was Jithme Jayawickrema in the No. 7 flight who was triumphant over Kelsey King of Western Michigan, 6-1, 6-2.

Indiana’s two doubles flight winners were Carolyn Chupa and Klyzcek and the duo of Alecia Kauss and Murdy.  Chupa and Klyczek played in the No.2 flight and won a tight match over Quinn Gleason and Katherine White of Notre Dame, 8-6, in the championship bout.  Kauss and Murdy earned their title by defeating DePaul’s Zaina Sufi and Vladutu, 8-3, in the No. 3 flight.

“It was a really great tournament performance for us,” head coach Lin Loring said. There were nine teams here and we won six of the 12 flights.  More important than the wins was the way we competed. We played hard and played to win. We have shown a lot of improvement the last three weeks.”

The Hoosiers have now completed the fall portion of their schedule.  Indiana will next compete when it hosts the Adidas IU Winter Invitational on Jan. 11-13, 2013.
