ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia men’s tennis head coach Manuel Diaz today announced the signing of Nick Wood, who will join the team beginning in January.

The Knoxville, Tenn., product was rated the No. 1 player in the South in each of the 12, 14, and 16 age groups, and No. 2 in the 18s. He is currently the No. 11 player in the nation for his age group and is No. 4 in the signing class according to TennisRecruiting.net.

“We are excited about Nick,” Diaz said. “He’s a great kid and a very hard worker, with some great up-side. I believe he’s going to be a big-time contributor for our program in the years to come. We are excited to have him on board beginning in January, and we’re looking forward to a great four years.”

Wood won national opens in the 12s, 14s, and 18s, and has made the ITF finals in Daytona Beach and the quarterfinals of the National Clay Courts in his career.

Wood’s father, Donie, was a tennis player for the University of Arkansas from 1987-90, and still ranks fourth in Razorbacks history for singles winning percentage in a season with a mark of 0.875 in 1988. His mother is Shari Wood and he has two brothers, Matt and Chase.
