CHAPEL HILL --- Hayley Carter of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Jamie Loeb of Ossining, N.Y., have signed National Letters of Intent to play tennis at the University of North Carolina, head coach Brian Kalbas announced Wednesday.

"Bringing in Hayley and Jamie adds two of the best players in the country to our program," Kalbas said. "What's really exciting for us is that they chose Carolina because they want to develop their individual games while also helping lead our team to the championship level. They are impressive, hard-working young women who come from tremendous families and I think the family atmosphere within our program was a big part of why they decided to sign here.

"On the court, I think we've added possibly the best server in the country and the best returner in the country. Jamie is an aggressive baseliner who can hit with anyone while Hayley is capable of getting a lot of free points with her huge serve."

Carter, who is currently ranked as the No. 10 overall player in the class and a Blue Chip prospect according to TennisRecruiting.net, comes from the Smith Stearns Tennis Academy. A record-setting 14-time South Carolina state champion and nine-time Southern region champion, Carter has been ranked as high as No. 1 in both the TennisRecruiting.net poll and in the RPI.

She has won the South Carolina ITF event two years in a row and has four total gold balls - three singles and one doubles - as well as four bronze balls.

Loeb, who is currently ranked as the No. 4 overall player in the class and is also a Blue Chip prospect, comes from Ossining High School. Loeb won both the singles and doubles 18s titles at the USTA National Winter Championships in 2012 and has already won a pair of pro tournaments - the $10,000 Futures events in Buffalo and Amelia Island.

She also swept singles and doubles titles at the ITF Grade 4 event in Delray Beach, Fla., in May and received a wild card into the main draw of the U.S. Open junior event. Loeb has been ranked as high as No. 2 by TennisRecruiting.net and No. 1 in the RPI.
