TULSA, Okla. -- A day after a thrilling win over Tulsa, No. 25 Washington (2-1) fell to No. 23 Texas (2-0), 6-1. The Dawgs were unable to close out matches in the same fashion as they had one day earlier against the host school.
The Dawgs began the day by dropping the doubles point as the Longhorns to a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
In singles, several of the matches were close, but only Kyle
McMorrow was able to close his out for the victory. The win by McMorrow was the 80thof his career at Washington . McMorrow defeated Soren Hess-Olesen in three sets as the senior dropped set one, 6-2, but fought back to win 7-6 and 6-4 in the final two.
Also playing well was a pair of Dawgs that got to third sets, only to come up short. Emmett
Egger won the first set 6-3 against Sudanwa Staram, but fell 6-3, 6-2, in the final two sets. Yesterday's hero Max Manthou won the middle set, but overall fell 6-3, 3-6, 7-6, as he was not able to capture the third-set tiebreak as he had the previous day.
Falling in straight sets in singles were Viktor Farkas, Jeff Hawke and Nicholas Kamisar. Farkas fell to No. 43 Daniel Whitehead at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 7-5, while Hawke fell to No. 98 Nick Naumann, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Finally, Nicholas Kamisar lost to Andre Korinek, 7-6, 6-2.
The Dawgs will now return home to face No. 7 Pepperdine at the Nordstrom Tennis Center on Wednesday, January 23, at 5 p.m. It will be another difficult opponent as the Huskies finish up a grueling stretch of three top-25 opponents.
