STANFORD, Calif.- No. 10 Stanford dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 26 Texas A&M on Friday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium during a rain-delayed opening day of ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Texas A&M (3-0, 0-0 Big 12) captured the doubles point and earned straight-set victories at the middle spots of the lineup to secure the win.
Harrison Adams defeated Nolan Paige 6-2, 7-6 (5) at the No. 3 position to provide the clincher.
Stanford (1-1, 0-0 Pac-12) appeared to be working its way back into the match, with split sets on court two and six while John Morrissey was close to taking the second set at No. 1.
However, the Aggies had already built a 3-0 lead before Adams was able to hold off Paige in a second-set tiebreaker.
Texas A&M will now face No. 27 San Diego (1-0, 0-0 WCC), a 4-3 winner over No. 29 Texas Tech, on Saturday at 2 p.m., with the winner punching its ticket to the National Team Indoor Championships during Feb. 15-18 in Seattle, Wash.
Stanford will square off against No. 29 Texas Tech (3-2, 0-0 Big 12) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Stanford is serving as one of 15 host sites around the country during ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
