LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- The No. 4 USC women's tennis team rolled up its fifth straight win of 2013 with a smooth 7-0 sweep of visiting No. 56 Fresno State. The Women of Troy have now pinned up five consecutive shutouts in these early goings of 2013, with today's victory clinched by freshman Ellie Yates on court five.

The Trojans peeled out to a 1-0 start on 8-4 wins in doubles on courts two and three. USC's Lao/Olmos upended Fresno State's McQueen/Susdorf first, and Pulido/Yates followed suit from the No. 3 spot to secure the advantage for the Women of Troy. With the point secured, the teams opted to continue to play out the No. 1 doubles match between #13 DeSimone/Scandalis and Bulldog pair Agrawal/Modoc. DeSimone/Scandalis got out ahead early, but the Bulldogs had fought back to force a tie and would manage to edge out the Trojans in the tiebreaker for an 8-7 (6) win.

Sabrina Santamaria started singles play out with a bang as the #17 sophomore put the silencers on to shut out Aishwarya Agrawal 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot. Seemingly inspired by Santamaria's swift success, Giuliana Olmos was the next to speed to victory with a second-set sweep. Olmos finished off Bianca Modoc 6-3, 6-0 on court three, and USC was up 3-0 in the match with several Trojans within reach of the clincher. Freshman Ellie Yates was the big winner. One game away from a shutout, Yates polished off Anne Sudsdorf from court five with a 6-0, 6-1 win, and the Trojans had their fifth straight victory in the books.

#14 Danielle Lao would push through for the next one, topping Melissa McQueen 6-2, 6-2 just before Kaitlyn Christian trumped Sophie Watts with a 6-3, 6-1 decision that bumped the Trojans to a 6-0 lead in the match. That left Valeria Pulido heading into a 10-point tiebreaker on court six. She took care of business with efficiency, pounding out a 10-4 win in the tiebreak to complete the Trojan sweep with her 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) comeback.
