Bulldogs Earn Win over Arkansas

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sunday the No. 24 Yale women's tennis team earned its second win of the season over a ranked opponent, defeating No. 37 Arkansas 4-3 in the Heyman-Cullman Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs conceded the doubles point but were able to make up for it in singles, winning four of the six matches. At No. 1, freshman Madeleine Hamilton, ranked No. 90 nationally, battled through three sets (6-2, 6-7, 6-4) but came up just short against Yang Pang. Senior captain Elizabeth Epstein, who boasts a No. 42 national standing, moved to 4-1 on the season with a two-set win (6-3, 6-4) over Claudine Paulson at No. 2. Rounding out the top half of the singles order, the Bulldogs also saw success at No. 3, where junior Annie Sullivan notched a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kimberly-Ann Surin. 

In the bottom half of the order, sophomore Amber Li earned a quick win (6-3, 6-1) over Flavia Araujo at No. 4, while senior Sarah Guzick faltered at No. 5, losing 6-2, 6-2 to Sarah Mclean. Finally, playing at No. 6, freshman Courtney Amos made her spring season debut with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 win against Ana Lorena Belmar Hernandez. She also played No. 3 doubles with junior Blair Seideman.

Next weekend the Bulldogs travel to Columbia to contend for a fifth consecutive ECAC Indoor Team Championship.
