SEATTLE - The top-ranked Virginia men's tennis team began its quest for its fifth ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a 4-0 victory over host Washington Friday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Cavaliers (3-0) needed just over two hours to dispatch the Huskies and advance to the quarterfinals at the tournament for the seventh consecutive year.

"I thought we came out with great energy right from the start," said head coach Brian Boland. "I was pleased with how we played, especially considering we hadn't had a match in three weeks. It looks like we picked up right where we left off. The guys hit the ball well and were no doubt prepared to compete."

The Cavaliers took the doubles point with a pair of victories at No. 2 and No. 3. At the No. 2 position, Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) and Julen Uriguen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) cruised to an 8-3 win over Marton Bots and Max Manthou. Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) and Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), teaming for the first time this year at No. 3, clinched the opening point with an 8-5 victory over Jeff Hawke and Viktor Farkas.

In singles, Virginia took control of the match by winning five of the six first sets. Domijan wasted little time doubling the lead, as he completed a 6-2, 6-0 win over Bots at the No. 2 position. Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) dominated his match at No. 5, downing Farkas 6-1, 6-1 to make the score 3-0. Minutes later Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) clinched the victory as he defeated Manthou 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.

"Alex Domijan had an outstanding performance," added Boland. "He won convincingly and was as sharp as can be. The same goes for Ryan Shane, Mac Styslinger, Justin Shane, really the whole team. The guys played some great tennis tonight."

The Cavaliers will meet either No. 9 Duke in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Match time at the Nordstrom Tennis Center is 5:30 p.m. PT (8:30 p.m. ET). The Blue Devils topped No. 8 Oklahoma 4-0 in the first round. The match will mark the first time Virginia has played an ACC team at ITA National Team Indoors.
