ATHENS, Ga.—Georgia freshman Silvia Garcia was named to the ITA National Team Indoors All-Tournament team, the ITA announced Friday.
Garcia helped the Bulldogs to the semifinals of the tournament, going a combined 6-0 in doubles and singles. Garcia picked up her first career win versus a ranked opponent, taking down No. 109 Lynn Chi from California. Garcia and doubles partner Kate Fuller beat UCLA’s No. 16 Skylar Morton and Robin Anderson.
Earlier this week, Garcia was named the women’s tennis SEC Freshman of the Week.
Current Georgia juniors Lilly Kimbell and Maho Kowase were named to the team last year after a strong performance in doubles. Former Georgia standout Chelsey Gullickson was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player in 2009.
The Bulldogs (5-1) will return to action on February 23rd at home against in-state rival and 22nd-ranked Georgia Tech (2-3). The match is set to begin at noon ET.
