The University of Oregon men's tennis team (8-1) dropped its first match of the season Friday as they fell to the Washington Huskies 5-2 in Seattle, Wash.
SEATTLE, Wash.—The University of Oregon men’s tennis team (8-1) dropped its first match of the season Friday as they fell to the Washington Huskies 5-2 in Seattle, Wash.
“We had a tough week dealing with some adversity and we weren’t being able to play a full lineup today,” said head coach Nils Schyllander. “It was disappointing to not pull off the win, but I’m proud of the whole squad.”
Oregon won the doubles point for the ninth straight time, but lost its first doubles match as Aaron Clissold and Lova Randriamampandry fell to Marton Bots and Max Manthou 8-6 in the No. 2 spot. UO’s top duo of Robin Cambier and Jeff Mullen topped Kyle McMorrow and Emmett Egger 8-6, while Daan Maasland and Alex Rovello beat Viktor Farkas and Jeff Hawke 8-1.
In singles, however, the Huskies swept the Ducks, giving them a 5-2 victory. Mullen played in the top spot for Oregon, falling to McMorrow 2-6, 7-5, 1-6, while Cambier had opportunities but lost to Bots 6-0, 3-6, 4-6 in the second spot. At No. 3, Maasland lost a tough match to Manthou 7-6, 2-6, 4-10. Rovello dropped his match to Egger 6-7, 2-6 in the No. 4 spot, while Randriamampandry fell 6-7, 3-6 to Farkas, and Chin lost to Hawke 1-6, 0-6 in the final spot.
“We need to come back strong tomorrow and learn our lessons and not let this affect us moving forward. We need to close the weekend out with a win and drive south,” added Schyllander.
The Ducks return to action in Seattle on Saturday as they take on the UNLV Rebels at 2 p.m.
