SEATTLE, Wash.— The University of Oregon men’s tennis team defeated the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Rebels 6-1 Saturday in Seattle, Wash. The Ducks are now 9-1, while the Rebels fall to 5-3.

“We certainly didn’t play our best tennis today,” said head coach Nils Schyllander, “but I’m very happy with the way we fought. It was close and we were able to pull through and close out a lot of matches that we were tested in.”

Alex Rovello and Daan Maasland handled Gilad Berman and Dilaura 8-4 in the No. 3 spot to start things off for the Ducks in doubles. Jeff Mullen and Robin Cambier defeated Bernard Choeman and Ace Matrias 9-7(3) in the top spot to give the Ducks the first point of the match. Aaron Clissold and Love Randriamampandry’s match against Johannes Markel and Tamas Batyi was cut short at 7-6 as the Ducks had already earned the doubles point.

In singles, Matias defeated Mullen 7-5, 6-2 in the top spot, but no other Ducks were defeated. Cambier topped Batyi 6-3, 7-6(5) in the second spot, while Rovello beat Alvarado 6-1, 6-0 in the third spot and Clissold handled Schoeman 6-3, 6-2 in the final spot to seal the win for the Ducks. Maasland topped Berman 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the fourth spot, and Randriamampandry defeated Markel 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot.

“Alex Rovello really stepped up today. He had a phenomenal weekend going 4-0, and we were really pleased with how he went 4-0. He started to play how we want him to play and how we know he can play, and I think it will be great for the rest of his season,” added Schyllander.
