NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 23-ranked Yale women's tennis team will play two matches in the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center this weekend, hosting Boston University on Friday before taking on Miami (Ohio) on Sunday. Due to the cancellation of the ECAC Indoor Team Championship, the Bulldogs have not played since Feb. 3, when they defeated then-No. 37 Arkansas 4-3 in New Haven.
The Bulldogs are 4-1 this season and had a strong showing at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, where they took down then-No. 19 Ole Miss in the first round. Freshman Madeleine Hamilton has made a quick transition to college tennis and is 3-2 this season at No. 1 singles. The team's captain, senior Elizabeth Epstein, is currently ranked No. 63 in the nation.
The Boston University Terriers, Yale's opponent Friday, are 3-1 this season, with wins over St. John's, Cleveland State and Binghamton. In their only match against a ranked team, the Terriers fell to then-No. 75 Wisconsin on Feb. 2.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs will continue play with a matchup against the Miami Redhawks. Miami has gotten off to a quick but difficult start this season, with nine matches under its belt and three wins to date. The Bulldogs will be the highest ranked team they have faced this season.
Yale plays at 4 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. Friday's match is Student Day in the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center, where there will be free pizza and prizes. Shuttles will run from Payne Whitney Gymnasium every 15 minutes.
