The teams played out the match on court one, as the 18th-ranked duo of Johnson, a junior, and senior co-captain Christoffer Konigsfeldt dropped an 8-6 result to Sacramento State's Aliaksandr Malko/Marek Marksoo.

In singles, the Hornets tied the match at 1-1 when Malko beat No. 34 Konigsfeldt, 6-2, 6-4, on court two. But Cal quickly regained the lead when Bayane beat Brandys, 6-1, 7-5, on court four, and then Engsted topped Niranjan Ram, 6-1, 6-3, on court five to make the score 3-1. Johnson, the 69th-ranked singles player in the nation, secured the team victory with his court-three triumph.
