COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M tennis players Jeremy Efferding and Shane Vinsant have been named SEC Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, the conference announced on Wednesday. Efferding and Vinsant helped lead the Aggies to a 3-0 record this past weekend, with two of those victories coming against top-20 opponents.

Efferding went 3-0 in singles, knocking off two top-50 players, and 2-0 in doubles, clinching the doubles point against both No. 5 Kentucky and Prairie View A&M. The three singles wins propelled Efferding to a No. 52 showing in this week's ITA national rankings.

The sophomore's first win came against Vanderbilt's 41st-ranked Gonzales Austin, 6-3, 6-3. to clinch the Aggies' first home Southeastern Conference match. In the doubles contest against the Commodores, Efferding narrowly missed claiming a win as the doubles point was decided when he and partner Jordan Szabo led 40-love with a 7-2 lead over Jeff Offerdahl and Rhys Johnson.

Efferding's second victory came over 18th-ranked Tom Jomby from Kentucky. The Boca Raton, Fla., native built three-game leads in both sets as he cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 victory, staking the Aggies a 3-0 advantage against the Wildcats. In pairs play with partner Szabo, the sophomore tandem clinched the crucial doubles point against Kentucky, 8-6.

In his final weekend match against Prairie View A&M, Efferding was in complete control the entire match, not dropping a single game on his way to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Karim Fotso. The sophomore was equally dominant in his doubles contest against Ronald Chidzikwe and Fotso, winning 8-0.

Vinsant also went 3-0 in singles and doubles this week and leads the team in singles (12-4) and doubles (11-2) victories. The freshman climbed 13 spots this week to No. 77 in singles in the ITA national rankings. Vinsant and fellow freshman Harry Adams climbed eight spots to No. 13 in doubles.

Vinsant helped clinch the doubles point against Vanderbilt, winning the first match, 8-2. In singles against the Commodores, the freshman increased the Aggies lead to 5-0 with a win against Marc van der Merwe, 6-4, 7-5.

Against the Wildcats, Vinsant and Adams again claimed the first doubles match with an 8-4 victory over Alejandro Gomez and Ryuji Hirooka. In singles, the Keller, Texas, native built a four-game lead in the first set and a five-game lead in the second set on his way to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Charles Minc.

In the final match of the weekend against the Panthers, Vinsant was able to cruise in both singles and doubles, winning 8-2 in pairs play over Jackson Varney and Craig Wiltz and then rolling through Wiltz, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 4 line.

The Aggies are in action again this evening as they welcome top-ranked Virginia to the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. To learn more about the men's tennis team, visit AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieMTEN on Twitter.
