URBANA, Ill. - The No. 15 University of Illinois men's tennis team was looking for their third top-10 upset of the season this afternoon when No. 1 Virginia invaded Atkins Tennis Center, but the Illini's quest fell short, losing to the Cavaliers 7-0. Thus, Virginia remains undefeated at 11-0 while Illinois drops to 7-5 on the year.

"Physically our team is strong in some of the things we can do," said Illinois head coach Brad Dancer. "We cracked in different circumstances on each of our courts today. We have to do some things better, where we're just ready for that moment to play with more calmness and more freedom. That's a big key in tennis in general, is that you can play free and focused at the same time. Today, we did that at times but weren't able to sustain it."

The Orange and Blue did receive a bright moment today from their number one doubles team of sophomores Tim Kopinski and Ross Guignon. The #36 ranked tandem defeated the #2 doubles pairing in the country in Jarmere Jenkins and Mac Styslinger by the score of 8-4. Jenkins/Styslinger entered the day 11-3 as duo and the Illinois win extended Kopinski's/Guignon's winning streak in doubles to six matches.

"Certainly happy for Tim and Ross," said Dancer. "They've worked very hard at doubles and deserve that, but at the same time, overall as a team is the main thing. We've got to improve some of these things with our team."

Virginia claimed the doubles point after victories on court two and three. In the number two doubles slot, #46 Mitchell Frank and Alex Domijan defeated Jared Hiltzik and Alex Jesse 8-3 and #27 Justin Shane and Julen Uriguen upended Farris Gosea and Stephen Hoh 8-1.

The Cavaliers then went on to win all six singles matches. Brian Page was the lone Illini to capture a set against the top ranked Virginia squad, but the freshman eventually fell to Julen Uriguen 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1.

#40 Jared Hiltzik came close to winning his first set against #5 Jarmere Jenkins when he was up 5-4, but Jenkins battled back to win 7-5, 6-1. Tim Kopinski had a tall task on court two when he squared off against #1 Alex Domijan as the former Big Ten tennis athlete of the week lost 6-3, 6-4. Also to note, in a duel between two ranked competitors #81 Mitchell Frank defeated #108 Ross Guignon 6-4, 6-3.
