COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State junior Nathan Sereke was named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced, Wednesday.
 
Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, Sereke went a combined 5-1 last week, earning three No. 2 singles wins and two No. 1 doubles victories as the No. 46 Broncos defeated Marquette, 6-1, No. 62 Idaho, 4-2 and No. 56 New Mexico, 7-0, at the SpringHill Suites Invitational. He defeated all three of his singles opponents in straight sets. Sereke turned back Vukasin Teofanovic of Marquette, 6-2, 5-0, and Abid Akbar of Idaho, 6-4, 7-5. Against New Mexico's Jadon Phillips, Sereke was awarded the singles point after Phillips was forced to retire. Sereke won the first set 7-6 and was ahead 4-3 in the second set. At No. 1 doubles, Sereke and Andy Bettles stopped Marquette's Teofanovic and Dan Mamalat, 8-4. The Boise State duo fell to Idaho's Akbar and Marius Cirstea, 8-2, but rallied to defeat New Mexico's Phillips and Riaan Du Toit, 8-7, to clinch the doubles point. Sereke has won five-straight singles matches and the Broncos have won 26 straight home matches.
 
It is the third-consecutive week a Boise State player has been named Player of the Week, Garrett Patton was honored March 20 and Andy Bettles, March 13. In total the Broncos have been awarded four times this season, tied with San Diego State for the most of any conference school.
 
Boise State will face UC Santa Barbara at home, Thursday and Utah State, Friday.
