WACO, Texas – Baylor’s 42nd-ranked women’s tennis team will take a break from conference action to face its former Big 12 foe, No. 4 Texas A&M, at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

“The Aggies are having their best season ever,” head coach Joey Scrivano said. “In my opinion, they have the best team in the nation, and should win the national championship this year. For us right now, we’re focusing on the basics. This group is learning how to compete and become tougher. We definitely are learning these lessons the hard way this season.”

Now 7-12 on the season, Baylor enters the match after a 4-2 loss against 35th-ranked TCU. The Lady Bears were unable to earn the doubles point for the 13th time this season, but gained two points in singles from 10th-ranked Ema Burgic, who is 14-5 this season, and Kiah Generette winning in straight-sets on courts 1 and 4, respectively. Generette has tallied a 6-5 mark in the fourth spot for BU. The loss was also the first for Baylor in Big 12 play this season.

Texas A&M (15-2) is coming off of a 4-2 loss against fifth-ranked Georgia. The Aggies’ lineup boasts three ranked singles players, including fifth-ranked Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar, No. 55 Nazari Urbina, and No. 68 Cristina Stancu. The three are a combined 30-8 in the top three spots.

In doubles, the team has two ranked tandems, with Stefania Hristov and Stancu at No. 7, and Sanchez-Quintanar and Wen Sun listed at No. 72. Overall, the Aggies are 26-15 in doubles.

The series record between the two teams is tied at 20 matches apiece. The two teams met earlier this season in College Station, Texas, on Feb. 27. In that match, the Lady Bears suffered a 4-0 defeat.

“We played the Aggies in College Station earlier this season, and they out-competed us from start to finish,” Scrivano said. “It was an embarrassment. I’m expecting us to compete harder this time around.”

After the match, BU will host a double header on Friday, kicking off the day against Prairie View A&M at 2 p.m., and then following with a match against Kansas slated to begin at 5 p.m.
