SEATTLE -- No. 30 Washington made it interesting right down to the final point, but fell to No. 47 Stanford, 4-3. The Dawgs dropped the doubles point, but fought back in singles to take a 3-2 lead, but fell in the final two matches to drop its first Pac-12 match of the season.

Washington dropped to 15-7 on the season and 2-1 in conference, while Stanford improved to 8-7 and 1-2 in the Pac-12.

The Dawgs dropped two of three doubles matches to fall behind, 1-0. The win came from Marton Bots and Kyle McMorrow who defeated Daniel Lin and John Morrissey, 8-3.

In singles, the Dawgs responded and took the lead after Bots and McMorrow again came through, winning in straight sets. Bots fought back in the first set and then dominated set two to defeat No. 88 Nolan Paige, 7-5, 6-2. At the No. 1 spot, McMorrow improved to 17-2 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over No. 54 John Morrisey.

Leading 2-1, the matches at No. 3 and No. 6 finished almost simultaneously with each squad winning one. Max Manthou got the Dawgs their third point when he dominated set two, winning 7-5, 6-1, over Maciek Romanowicz. Over on court six, Nicholas Kamisar fell to Trey Strobel, 7-5, 6-3, and Stanford had its second point.

Needing one more point, Emmett Egger battled deep into the second set, while Viktor Farkas sent his match into set three with a second-set win. Egger was the first to fall as he played a second-set tiebreak and despite leading the breaker 4-1, fell 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

Finally, it was Farkas who trailed in the third set when Egger's match ended. The sophomore battled back holding serve to stay alive, but eventually fell, 7-5, 6-3.

It was a tough ending for the Dawgs, who had their chances against the Cardinal. They will now regroup and face another tough challenge in less than 24 hours as the California comes to Seattle on Saturday at 1 p.m. The match will also be senior day as Bots and McMorrow will be honored before their final home match.
