TEMPE, Calif. - California's Klara Fabikova beat Desirae Krawczyk, 6-2, 6-4, to give the 11th-ranked Golden Bears a 6-1 victory over the 21st-ranked Sun Devils on Friday at the Whiteman Tennis Center. Cal improved its record to 13-5 (7-1 in the Pac-12), while ASU's record now stands at 15-4 (5-3 Pac-12).

The Bears wrapped up the doubles point with wins on court two and then three. The 29th-ranked Cal duo of freshman Klara Fabikova and sophomore Zsofi Susanyi got Cal off to a good start with an 8-4 victory over Joanna Smith and Ebony Panoho, 8-4. Cal seniors Tayler Davis and Annie Goransson then beat Leighann Sahagun and Hannah James, 8-5. The teams played out the final doubles match on court one, as Cal's 23rd-ranked team of junior Anett Schutting and freshman Lynn Chi fell in an upset to Nicole Smith/Jacqueline Cako, 7-6(5).

"ASU always comes out and competes really well in doubles," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "There was a point where the matches were close, but we were slowly gaining control. There was a point where Tayler and Annie went up 6-3 and Klara and Zsofi went up 6-4, and that's when momentum really swung in our favor. The doubles point was important, and we even got stronger after the doubles point. That was so crucial for us today."

In singles, Chi, ranked 61st, posted a victory on court four, as the freshman quickly topped James, 6-0, 6-1. Tenth-ranked Schutting followed with a 6-2, 6-1, victory on court one and then Fabikova clinched the team win over on court two, as Cal led 4-0.

The Sun Devils finally got on the scoreboard with a win on court six, as Goransson fell to Panoho, 6-3, 6-3, to make the score 4-1. Susanyi, ranked fifth, got the Bears back on track with a 7-6(1), 6-3, triumph on court three, and then Davis picked up a 7-6(9), 2-6, 1-0(10-3), win on court five to make the final score 6-1.

Today was the first time Susanyi, Cal's All-America star who has been recovering from a minor injury, played in a singles match and a doubles match on the same day in almost two months.

"She's looking good and feeling better." Augustus said. "Zsofi was excited to get out there today and is feeling good physically. She felt really good after she got off the court today."

Cal next plays Arizona on Saturday, April 13, at noon in Tucson, Ariz., in the Bears' last road match of the regular season.
