COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan women's team wrapped up its fourth consecutive Big Ten regular-season championship with a 7-0 win at Ohio State on Sunday afternoon (April 21) at the Varsity Indoor Center. Michigan shares the title with Nebraska, which also finished with a 10-1 conference mark.

Site: Columbus, Ohio (Varsity Indoor Center)
Score: #6 Michigan 7, Ohio State 0
Records: U-M (19-4, 10-1 Big Ten), OSU (10-13, 3-8 Big Ten)
Next U-M Event: Friday, April 26 -- vs. TBD - Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals (Bloomington, Ind.)

Michigan started the match with a dominating showing in doubles, winning all three matches to take the first point of the match. At No. 1, sophomore Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) and sophomore Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan) breezed to an 8-0 victory to put U-M on the brink of the doubles point.

After falling behind 2-0, Michigan's No. 2 pairing of sophomore Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall) and senior Mimi Nguyen (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) won the next three games for a 3-2 lead. After Ohio State evened the match at 3-3, U-M rattled off another three straight games to take control of the match en route to the 8-5 win.

With the doubles point in hand, the No. 3 team of sophomore Kristen Dodge (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and freshman Ronit Yurovsky (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) took an 8-5 decision to give the Maize and Blue a clean sweep in doubles.

Michigan's dominance continued into singles action as the Wolverines won five of six first sets, not allowing a Buckeye to win more than three games in those victories.

Bektas was the first Wolverine off court in singles action, dispatching of No. 62 Kelsey Dieters in straight sets (6-3, 6-1). The two were on serve to start the first, but Bektas took advantage of a break at 4-3 and only surrendered one more game the rest of the match.

Lee jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set and only dropped four games the entire match in a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kara Cecil at No. 3 to push Michigan's lead to 3-0.

It was a race to clinch the match as both Yurovsky and Bolender, who each won their first set, held 5-2 leads in the second. Bolender officially clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4, and Yurovsky followed moments later with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 2.

Dodge kept Michigan's winning ways alive at No. 6, picking up a 6-1, 6-4 victory to put U-M's sixth point of the day on the board.

Michigan's most impressive point of the day came from freshman Amy Zhu (Newark, Del./Laurel Springs), who rallied from a first-set loss for a 1-6, 7-6 (1), 1-0 (5) win at No. 5 to keep U-M perfect on the day.

Michigan will be the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Big Ten Tournament and receive a first-round bye. U-M will be in action on Friday (April 26) in Bloomington, Ind.
