STANFORD, Calif.- One day after the NCAA team brackets were announced, the Stanford tennis programs were represented among the singles and doubles selections for the 2013 NCAA Championships.
Only the selections were announced on Wednesday afternoon, while the individual brackets will be released in two weeks.
The individual portion of the NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championship is scheduled for May 22-27 in Urbana, Ill., with singles play kicking off on May 22 and the doubles competition getting underway on May 23.
Three players are into the singles draw on the women's side, while two doubles teams will also be in action when competition gets underway.
Junior Kristie Ahn
2012-13: Tabbed an at-large selection ... ranked No. 29 nationally ... 26-5 overall ... 18-2 in duals, playing all but five matches at the No. 2 spot ... 18-2 in tournament play ... 9-4 against nationally-ranked opponents ... 9-1 over her last 10 matches ... reached semifinals of Pac-12 Championships ... advanced to quarterfinals of ITA Northwest Regional Championships ... successful return to the court after missing last season due to injury.
Junior Nicole Gibbs
2012-13: Named an at-large selection ... ranked No. 13 nationally ... 13-4 overall and 12-4 in duals, playing all of her matches at the No. 1 position ... 7-4 against nationally-ranked opponents ... 7-3 over her last 10 matches, including a three-match winning streak ... did not compete in fall season ... defending NCAA singles and doubles champion.
Freshman Krista Hardebeck
2012-13: Checks in as an at-large selection ... ranked No. 19 nationally ... sports team-best 32-10 overall record and is 14-6 in duals, playing mainly at the No. 3 spot ... 18-4 in tournament matches ... 12-10 against nationally-ranked opponents ... 8-2 over her last 10 matches ... competing in her first career tournament, reached quarterfinals of ITA All-American Championships in October ... captured singles title at ITA Northwest Regional Championships in October ... earned runner-up singles finish at Pac-12 Championships.
