WACO, Texas – An ankle injury to Baylor women’s tennis player Ema Burgic has forced the sophomore to withdraw from the NCAA Individual Championships, head coach Joey Scrivano announced on Monday.

“We are disappointed Ema is unable to compete this week in the NCAA Championships, but she still had a terrific season and we have high hopes for her next season," Scrivano said.

The injury takes Burgic out of the singles portion of the event as well as the NCAA Doubles Championships with partner Victoria Kisialeva.

Burgic, who suffered an ankle sprain last week in practice, was seeded in the 9-16 range of the 64-person singles bracket, while she and Kisialeva were the No. 4 seed for the 32-team doubles draw.

Burgic earned an automatic bid into the singles event by being the highest ranked player in the Big 12, while the duo's selection was by virtue of the same method.

In 2013, Burgic racked up a 25-5 dual-match record and ended the season on a 17-match win streak with all of those contests coming at the No. 1 spot. Overall, Burgic finished 42-8 on the season and 24-6 against ranked opponents. That win total is the fourth-most in BU history for a single season. The 10th-ranked Lukavac, Bosnia & Herzegovina, product was named the Big 12 Player of the Year and the ITA Texas Region Player to Watch.

Burgic and Kisialeva, a redshirt freshman, are ranked No. 8 in the latest ITA listings. The duo has a 19-3 record on court 1 and a 25-3 mark overall. The BU tandem was 8-2 in its last 10 decisions, including six straight wins.
