DURHAM, N.C. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its final 2012-13 rankings Wednesday highlighted by Duke’s Henrique Cunha and Raphael Hemmeler concluding the season as the No. 1 ranked doubles tandem in the country. Overall, the Blue Devils set an all-time high with three ranked doubles duos in the rankings and tied the all-time record of four ranked players in the final singles listing.

The dynamic duo of Cunha and Hemmeler became the second Blue Devil pair to finish the season as the top-ranked tandem in the nation, as Cunha and Reid Carleton accomplished the feat after the 2010 season. The 2012 ITA National Indoor Doubles Champions, Cunha and Hemmeler posted 39 victories on the season, which ranks second all-time in program history. In addition, Cunha and Hemmeler became just the third duo in the program’s history to reach the semifinals of the NCAA Individual Doubles Championships last month, as Cunha earned his third All-America honor in doubles and Hemmeler garnered the first All-America honor of his career.

Freshman Michael Redlicki and sophomore Jason Tahir earned a No. 27 listing after playing to a 24-10 mark for the season, while juniors Fred Saba and Chris Mengel conclude the campaign 72nd in the ledger.

In singles, Duke’s four ranked players tied the 2001 and 1999 squads for the most players in the final rankings.

Cunha, the 2010 and 2013 ACC Player of the Year, completed his final campaign at Duke listed fifth to lead the squad. He becomes the first Blue Devil to finish in the top 10 of the final rankings in each of his four seasons at Duke, including three seasons in the top five. Cunha, a four-time All-American in singles, is one of 10 players in the nation to conclude the season in the top-25 in singles and doubles. In his final season of his illustrious Duke career, Cunha finished with a 19-1 record in dual matches and an overall 34-5 ledger.

Redlicki, named 2013 All-ACC, concludes his first season at Duke with a No. 38 ranking after finishing the season with 31 victories to sit eighth all-time in single season wins by a freshman. Redlicki advanced to the second round at the NCAA Individual Singles Championships earlier this month.

A product of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Saba, listed No. 43, concludes a standout junior season with the first end of season ranking of his career. Saba captured 26 victories on the season, including a thrilling straight set win over then-No. 1 Alex Domijan of Virginia.

After concluding the season with a team-high 35 wins, Hemmeler is listed No. 73 in the singles rankings. Hemmeler earns his first end of season national ranking of his Blue Devil career, as his 35 wins on the season sit in a tie for sixth in the program’s history.

The Blue Devils have boasted at least one ranked player in the final rankings in each of the past 13 seasons in singles and doubles.
