URBANA, Ill. – LSU’s sophomore No. 42 Chris Simpson fell 4-6, 7-5, 3-6 to Texas’ No. 37 Soren Hess-Olesen in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championships Wednesday afternoon at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center hosted by the University of Illinois.

The two went back in forth in the first set before Hess-Olesen won the final two points to take the first set 6-4.

It was the same story in the second set, but Simpson was on the winning side this time, taking the second set 7-5 and force a decisive third set.

Hess-Olesen took control early in the third set, taking a 3-0 lead. Simpson mounted a comeback, but his efforts were not enough as Hess-Olesen won the final set 6-3 to clinch the match.

Simpson, a member of the All-SEC Second Team and pegged as a Player to Watch for the Southern Region by the ITA, finishes the season with a 12-14 record in singles.
