BATON ROUGE – The LSU men’s tennis team has added some firepower, signing Andrew Korinek, a freshman transfer from Texas.

A native of Mansfield, Texas, Korinek will compete as a sophomore for the Tigers in 2013-14.

“We are looking forward to Andrew joining our team,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “He will contribute in singles and doubles. He and current Tiger Tam Trinh won a national championship together in juniors and Andrew ranked as high as No. 7 on TennisRecruiting.net in singles his senior year as a five star athlete.”

As Brown noted, Korinek and LSU freshman Trinh teamed up and won the boys’ 16 doubles draw at the 2010 USTA Boys’ National Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich. Additionally, Korinek reached the singles semifinals at the 2010 USTA Winter National Championships. On top of this, he won the boys’ 18 division singles title at the age of 16 at the Texas Sectional Championships. Korinek was also the 2011 Texas UIL 5A state singles champion.

Korinek notched a 16-5 overall singles record for the 2012-13 season, going 7-2 in dual-match play. He went 1-0 on Courts 1 and 4, 2-0 on Court 5, and 3-2 on Court 6. He amassed a 4-7 overall doubles record for this past season, notching a 1-4 dual-match record.

Korinek joins an LSU squad that wrapped up the 2012-13 season as the No. 22 nationally-ranked team with a berth in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
