URBANA, Ill. – Auburn doubles tandem of Pleun Burgmans and Plamena Kurteva had its season end on Thursday with a 6-3, 6-4 loss to William and Mary’s Maria Belaya and Jeltje Loomans at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Center.

“Pleun and Plamena both had great seasons and were a big part of all the success we had as a team this year,” Auburn women’s tennis head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “I’m so proud of both of them and all they accomplished this year. I’m really proud of Plamena and all her accomplishments over her four-year career both on the courts and as a student. She’s been a great example to our young team in my two years at Auburn.”

ITA No. 10 Burgmans and Kurteva dropped the first three games of the first set before rallying to cut the score to 2-3. Trailing 4-3, the Auburn duo then lost the next two games to fall behind a set with a 6-3 loss.

Again in the second set, Auburn’s Burgmans and Kurteva fell behind 13th-ranked Belaya and Loomans, 2-0. The Tigers’ tandem got within a game at 4-3 and then 5-4, but ultimately fell in the deciding set 6-4 to drop the match.
