College Tennis News - Addison falls in singles semifinals at NCAA Championships

URBANA, Ill. – Breaunna Addison’s historic run through the women’s singles draw ended in the semifinals Sunday afternoon at the NCAA Championships. The first-semester Texas freshman suffered a 6-1, 6-1 defeat at the hands of defending NCAA singles champion Nicole Gibbs of Stanford after becoming the first Longhorn to reach the NCAA singles semifinals in 18 years.

Addison’s first semester of college tennis ends with ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) singles All-America honors and a 30-7 overall singles record. Addison is the first Texas freshman ever to reach the NCAA singles quarterfinals or beyond and just the third Longhorn ever to reach the NCAA singles semifinals.

Addison’s opening-round win last Wednesday made her the first UT freshman to win a match in the 64-player NCAA singles draw in 17 years. With her second-round win over Miami’s Stephanie Wagner, Addison automatically secured ITA singles All-America honors and became the first UT freshman to do that since 1990.
