SKILLMAN, N.J. -- Junior Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan) and sophomore Emina Bektas(Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) of the University of Michigan women's tennis team picked up All-America doubles honors by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Thursday (June 6).
The pair finished the season ranked No. 4 and earned a No. 5-8 seed for the NCAA Doubles Championship, cementing its status as All-Americans. The ITA's criteria for doubles All-Americans is to finish ranked in the top 10 of the ITA rankings, receive a top eight seed in the NCAA Doubles Championship or reach the quarterfinal round of the tournament. Bektas and Bolender featured a 26-7 overall record and a 21-4 dual-match record at the No. 1 spot.
Both Wolverines earned All-Big Ten first team honors and each picked up their second All-America citation. Bolender earned the doubles nod after pairing with former Wolverine Denise Muresan (2008-11) in 2011, with Bektas adding this year's honor to last year's singles award. Bolender and Bektas are the second and third Wolverines in program history to win All-America honors in two different seasons.
Head coach Ronni Bernstein has coached three student-athletes to seven All-America citations during her six-year tenure in Ann Arbor.
Michigan went 23-4 in 2013 and won its fourth straight Big Ten championship. The Wolverines reached the NCAA Sweet 16 for the fourth consecutive season and had two players participate in the singles tournament for the first time in program history.
