BERKELEY – California proved its prowess on the tennis courts as well as in the classroom in 2012-13, as three Golden Bears – current sophomore Lynn Chi, junior Cecilia Estlander and alumna Annie Goransson – earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, the organization announced on Wednesday.

In order to achieve ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must: 1) be a varsity letter winner; 2) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year; and 3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

Goransson capped her final season as a Bear with another strong performance in the classroom, as she collected Pac-12 All-Academic laurels for the third time by earning honorable mention.

On the court, the trio were part of a Cal squad that reached the NCAA quarterfinals and posted a 19-6 record, including a 9-1 Pac-12 mark and second place in the conference. In singles, the ITA gave Chi a final 2012-13 ranking of No. 57, after she compiled a 38-7 record as a freshman. Playing for the first time together in the Pac-12 Championships, Estlander joined now former teammate Goransson to advance to the doubles invitational final before falling.
