ATHENS, Ga.—The Georgia women's tennis team will face at least 11 NCAA Tournament teams from last year including home matches against ACC foe Clemson and conference rivals Florida and Texas A&M, head coach Jeff Wallace announced Monday.
“We’re excited that the school year has started and we’re looking forward to getting out on the courts,” said head coach Jeff Wallace. “I think that we have a really challenging schedule this year, but we have some great trips and some awesome home matches.”
The Bulldogs will play in a total of five tournaments this fall, including two in Athens. During the fall, the Bulldogs will travel to tournaments in Los Angeles, Calif., Charleston, S.C., and finally New York, N.Y., for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships Nov. 7-10.
Georgia’s first home fall tournament, the Bulldog Classic, kicks off the year on Sept. 20-22 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Later in the fall, Athens will play host to ITA Regionals on Oct 18-21.
After a two-month winter hiatus, Georgia will travel to Hawaii for competition from Jan. 15-21.
A week later, the Bulldogs will serve as a host site for ITA Kick-Off Weekend Jan. 24-25, with its first round match coming against Elon. Kansas State and Arkansas will play in the other first round match. With two wins during the weekend, Georgia will qualify for and travel to Charlottesville, Va. for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships Feb. 8-11.
The first dual match is set for Feb. 1 against Clemson in Athens, Ga. Three weeks later, the Bulldogs will host Furman (Feb. 21).
Georgia will then travel to Atlanta to square of with in-state rival Georgia Tech on Feb. 23 at 1 p.m., before kicking off SEC play with a home date with Tennessee on March 1. Next, Georgia travels to the Magnolia State for matches against Mississippi State (March 7) and Ole Miss (March 9).
The Bulldogs return home for a mid-week match against Virginia on March 12, the first match in a double-header that also features the Georgia men’s team versus Ohio State.
Georgia will continue in Athens against South Carolina (March 14) and Florida (March 16) before traveling north to face Kentucky (March 21) and Vanderbilt (March 23) the next weekend.
The Bulldogs will get their first chance to host new conference opponents Texas A&M and Missouri when the Aggies come to town on March 28 and the Tigers visit Athens on March 30.
The Bulldogs will head to Arkansas (April 4) and LSU (April 6) before returning home for its final homestand of the season against Alabama (April 11) and Auburn (April 13).
The SEC Tournament will be held April 16-20, prior to NCAA Regionals May 10-12. The NCAA Tournament Round of 16 and beyond will be hosted by the University of Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex May 15-26.
“I think that our schedule is all going to be a great lead-up to hosting the NCAA Championships on May. We are so fortunate to be hosting and we’re looking forward to getting back and competing against the best on our home courts.”
All home matches are held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex and admission is free.
