NORMAN, Okla.—Four Sooners competed in matches today at the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York and the Bulldog Scramble in Georgia.

Heading into the semifinals Axel Alvarez won three straight matches at the Indoors. Including an upset over the tournament’s No.3 seed, Baylor’s Julian Lenz in the second round.

Despite these victories, the sophomore’s run ended in New York after falling to UCLA’s Clay Thompson 6-3, 7-5 in the fourth round.

Alvarez ends his fall season being the ITA Central Region Champion, a title he earned at the ITA Central Region Championships in Oct.

The remaining Sooners continued play in the Bulldog Scramble at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia’s campus.

In singles play, all Sooners outlasted their opponents in the third round.

Alex Ghilea began his day beating LSU’s Andrew Korinek in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

Nick Papac also defeated an LSU Tiger, Harrison Kennedy 6-3, 3-0 after Kennedy retired in the middle of the second set.

Sophomore Austin Siegel clinched the Sooners’ third round sweep, ousting Vanderbilt’s Ryan Smith 7-6(2), 6-4.

In doubles play, Siegel and partner Ghilea beat Georgia’s Garrett Brasseaux and Eric Diaz 6-5, on their home court.
