ATHENS, Ga.—The Bulldogs were eliminated from the ITA National Indoor Championships Saturday in Flushing, N.Y. Maho Kowase and Lauren Herring were eliminated from the doubles competition and Herring fell short in the consolation singles draw.

“Everyone played well this week,” said assistant coach Drake Bernstein. “We were playing against the best competition in the country and were able to get a lot of good wins. It was a good way to end the fall. As a team, we feel good about where we’re at and are excited about the spring.”

The Georgia doubles tandem of Kowase and Herring fell just short to Louisville’s Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine, 7-6 (6), 6-3. Kowase and Herring wrap-up play after an exceptional fall campaign that included a 14-3 record and four wins versus ranked opponents.

In singles, third-seeded Herring lost 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 to Duke’s Beatrice Capra, the tournament’s top seed, in the consolation singles third round. Earlier in the day, Herring beat Georgina Sellyn of Vanderbilt, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0, her tenth win of the fall.

Georgia was one of 21 schools represented in the women's singles draw and one of only three teams with three players represented in the draw.

The USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serve as the culmination of the fall college tennis season. The championship featured a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women. It marked the last event of the Bulldogs 2013 fall season. Georgia will return to action in January for a week-long tournament in Hawaii, before playing host to ITA Kickoff Weekend.
