SKILLMAN, N.J. - The North Carolina women's tennis team is ranked No. 3 according to the first ITA Tennis team rankings of the 2014 season. Additionally, freshmen Jamie Loeb and Hayley Carter check in at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively in the singles rankings.
 
Loeb and Carter lead four Carolina players ranked in singles. Sophomore Whitney Kay is 88th and Ashley Dai comes in at 118th.
 
In the doubles rankings, Kay and Caroline Price are 10th, while Loeb and Carter are 12th in the nation.
 
Laura Slater and Kate Vialle are 42nd in the doubles rankings.
 
Despite defeating top-ranked Robin Anderson of UCLA twice in the fall, Loeb heads into her second semester of competition as the second-ranked player in the county. The Ossining, N.Y., native finished the fall with a 19-1 record.
 
Carter was 19-3 in the fall with her three setbacks coming at the hands of Anderson, third-ranked Beatrice Capra of Duke and No. 4 Lauren Herring of Georgia.
 
Kay and Price compiled a 5-2 record in the fall while competing in just two events.
 
Loeb and Carter went 14-3 and won both the Duke Fab Four and the ITA Carolinas Regional to highlight their fall season.
 
Slater and Vaille enjoyed an 8-4 record thus far this season in doubles competition.
 
Carolina returns to the court at the Freeman Memorial Championship on Jan. 18-20 in Las Vegas, Nev. The Tar Heels then open the spring season with home matches against Elon and UNCG on Jan. 22 at 2 and 7 p.m., respectively.
