UCLA Players Selected for NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships

LOS ANGELES - A total of eight UCLA tennis players (3 men and 5 women) have been selected to compete in the 2014 NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships, the NCAA announced on Wednesday. The individual portion of the NCAA Championships will take place after the team event and is scheduled to run from May 21-26 at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
 
As the highest ranked player in the Pac-12, Robin Anderson earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA singles draw. She is seeded No. 2 in the 64-player draw. Freshman Jennifer Brady was an at-large selection and is also seeded at No. 8. Like Brady, junior Chanelle Van Nguyen (9-16 seed) and sophomore Kyle McPhillips received at-large selections to represent UCLA in singles.
 
Anderson and Brady received an automatic bid to the 32-team NCAA doubles draw are the tournament's top-seeded duo. They will be joined in the draw by at-large qualifiers Catherine Harrison and McPhillips.
 
On the men's side, Bruin senior Clay Thompson, who has been ranked No. 1 for nearly the entire season, is the top-seeded player in the men's singles draw. Junior Marcos Giron is seeded No. 2. Freshman Mackenzie McDonald will also be representing UCLA in singles.
 
Additionally, Giron and McDonald were chosen to represent UCLA in the NCAA doubles draw.
