WACO, Texas – Baylor head women’s tennis coach Joey Scrivano announced the transfer of Anastasia Kharitonova from the University of Florida to Baylor, Thursday. Kharitonova was one of the top junior players in the world in 2018, earning a career-best ranking of No. 18 on Jan. 1, 2018.

Kharitonova played primarily No. 5 and No. 6 singles for Florida last season, as the Gators finished the year 13-12 overall, 7-6 in SEC competition and finished the season ranked No. 24 by the ITA.

“Her junior background speaks for itself. What I really like about Nastya and her family is that tennis is a top priority for them,” Scrivano said. “She’s a lefty, plays a power game, and is excited to compete for Baylor.”

Kharitonova will be a sophomore for the Bears with three years of eligibility remaining. Among her accomplishments at the junior level, she defeated the No. 1 ranked junior player, Whitney Osuigwe (USA) and advanced to the round of 16 at the 2017 US Open Juniors. She collected a 57-25 singles record with a 40-23 doubles mark on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

The Moscow, Russia native will put Baylor’s roster at seven players for the fall and nine players for the spring after Alicia Herrero Linana and Mel Krywoj finish their year-in residence in December.
