Seven Trojans advance in singles; three doubles duos move on in Malibu.

MALIBU, CALIF. — The USC men’s tennis team have swarmed the singles and doubles draws at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, with seven singles players and four doubles teams scoring wins today to advance at the action out in Malibu, Calif.

Kicking off the day was USC senior Rae Lan, who played his first official match as a Trojan after serving as a manager for several seasons. Lan fell in his opening-round singles match, but has a chance to tally his first win as a Trojan tomorrow in the back draw. The other seven Trojans in the singles draw had earned first-round byes to push on into the Round of 64. All seven were victorious in straight sets, setting up a solid contingent of Trojans for tomorrow’s Round of 32. USC has several players seeded in this one, led by top seed Daniel Cukierman, No. 3 seed Bradley Frye and No. 4 seed Jake Sands. Senior Riley Smith has the No. 6 seed, and sophomore Mor Bulis is seeded No. 7 while freshmen Stefan Dostanic and Ryder Jackson are also in the mix and nabbed singles wins today.

Four Trojan duos were in action for the doubles draw today, and three secured trips to tomorrow’s Round of 16. Top-seeded Brandon Holt and Riley Smith moved on through with an 8-6 win in the round of 32, while the other two USC winning tandems posted even more powerful wins to advance. No. 2 seeded Bulis and Cukierman logged a decisive 8-1 win, and freshman-sophomore tandem Dostanic/Frye won 8-2 to move on.
