LOS ANGELES – Last week, the Loyola Marymount University men's tennis team would have concluded its 2019-20 season at the WCC Championships. The team would like to recognize seniors Ryan Brown, Cartier Juan and Max Kaiser.
"All three seniors played huge roles individually and brought so much to the table for the program," said head coach Tom Lloyd. "Collectively, there is going to be a huge hole to fill with our returners as the seniors have set the bar very high in their respective areas of leadership, hard work and discipline. I am very grateful they chose LMU and we will forever be indebted to them. I expect great things out of them as they meet the real-world head on in their chosen job fields."
Ryan Brown: A huge asset to the Lions in doubles play, Brown went 4-3 from court three he's senior season. His junior year, Brown picked up a ranked doubles win over his opponents from No. 26 San Diego. His sophomore season, the Manhattan Beach native was named a National Scholar Athlete.
Lloyd: "Ryan is the epitome of a team player and gave everything he had for the team, said Lloyd. "His energy, personality and aura was infectious and he always made everyone around him better. He wanted nothing more than to see his team flourish and proved to be a fantastic leader. Brown is one of a kind will always have the heart of a Lion."
Cartier Juan: His sophomore and junior season, Juan was a scholar athlete, as he was named an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2018, and was named to the 2019 WCC All-Academic Team in 2019. Juan is from Arcadia, Calif.
Lloyd: Cartier always led by example with how disciplined he was with his training, tennis and school, said Lloyd. "He was an incredible student and utilized what he learned on the tennis court and brought it to the student senate. There is no question that Cart is one of the most liked guys overall in our program and he will be missed dearly. I am going to go on record and also say he is pound for pound one of the best athletes at this university."
Max Kaiser: His senior season, Kaiser collected four singles wins from courts four and six, while going 4-1 in singles play from court three. A native of Berlin Germany, Kaiser was named WCC All-Academic his junior season and an ITA Scholar Athlete his sophomore season.
Lloyd: "Max represents relentless hard work and perseverance," said Lloyd. "He has always looked at the positive in situations and has overcome a tremendous amount of adversity in his 4 years, both personally and on the tennis court. He is one of the hardest working tennis players I have ever been around."
Brown, Juan and Kaiser led the Lions to four wins before the season was forced to end.
