URBANA, IL - At the 2013 NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championships, Texas A&M sophomore Jeremy Efferding lost to Greg Andrews from the University of Notre Dame, 6-4, 6-4, in the first round Wednesday at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Illinois.

“Greg served well and dictated the tempo of the match and all the credit goes to him,” Aggie head coach Steve Denton said. “As I mentioned yesterday, everyone is very good. You either play very well, or you go home. It was great for Jeremy (just a sophomore) to see this level and realize what he has to do to continue to become a better tennis player. He came a long way this season and was the very heart and soul of our team. We are very proud of him.”

Efferding, from Boca Raton, Florida, compiled a 26-14 record overall in singles including a 16-8 record this spring in dual matches. He became the first Aggie men’s tennis player to defeat the top-ranked collegiate player when Efferding outlasted Alex Domijan from Virginia. Efferding earned first-team All-SEC honors this spring in helping the Aggies win the SEC Western Division crown.

In the doubles championships, the All-American duo of Jackson Withrow and Junior Ore earned a 5-8 seed and will face the Elon duo of Stefan Fortmann and Cameron Silverman in first round action on Thursday, May 23. The last Aggie doubles team to compete in the NCAA Championships was the 2011 eventual NCAA Champions Austin Krajicek and Jeff Dadamo. Ore is a junior from Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Withrow is a sophomore from Omaha, Nebraska. The Aggie tandem is currently ranked No. 8 in the ITA rankings while the Elon duo is ranked No. 33.

Ore and Withrow posted a 14-9 overall record with all matches coming this spring. Of the eight seeded doubles teams in the NCAA Championships, the Aggie duo has faced five of the top tandems with their top victory coming against the top Georgia tandem of Hernus Pieters and Ben Wagland.

The Aggie freshmen tandem of Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant was selected as an alternate for the doubles championship.

The NCAA singles and doubles championship matches will be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games will be used for all matches.
