College Tennis Teams - Texas A&M University - Team News - Aggies Sweep Broncos Advancing to ITA Indoor Championship

College Station, Texas - The No. 5 Texas A&M men's tennis team defeated Boise State 4-0 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Aggies advanced to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships to be held Feb. 12-15 at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.

The Aggies opened the day capturing the doubles point for the fourth consecutive match, returning All-Americans Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant made their first appearance alongside each other this season. The duo were knotted at 3-3 on the first court against Toby Mitchell and Kyle Butters when the doubles point was clinched.

Senior Jackson Withrow and sophomore Arthur Rinderknech continued their hot-streak to open the spring season, the pair moved to 3-0 on the year as they defeated Lewis Roskilly and Brian Foley 6-1 on court two. No. 29 Jordi Arconada and Max Lunkin proved their mettle, winning 6-2 over Pedro Platzeck and Abe Hewko on court three. The freshly ranked Aggie tandem moved to 5-1 on the year, including a 2-0 mark in the spring dual season.

For the second straight day, Texas A&M captured all six first sets including a 7-1 tiebreaker victory by sophomore AJ Catanzariti over Roskilly on court five. Adams returned to action for the first time since last season's NCAA tournament and the senior showed minimal rust. The New Braunfels native defeated Hewko 6-4, 6-2 on court four to put the Aggies ahead 2-0.

The day's third point was claimed by Adams doubles partner, No. 29 Vinsant. The Keller native bested Butters 6-3, 6-3 on court two to improve to 2-0 in dual matches and 9-4 overall this season. Moments later the match was clinched by No. 5 Rinderknech on the first court. The Paris native continues to pace the Aggies with 15 wins this season, improving to 15-2 overall and 2-0 in duals. Rinderknech enjoyed a meteoric rise in the ITA rankings after an impressive fall campaign, improving from No. 59 to No. 5 as his only two defeats were to the currently ranked No. 2 and No. 3 players in the country.

The Aggies will await their first round opponent at the ITA Indoor, draws will be completed closer to the tournament after the field has been finalized. In the meantime, the maroon and white will get some court time indoors as they take on No. 4 Baylor in Waco on Feb. 3 at 6p.m. (CT). The Aggies and Bears last faced off at the 2014 ITA Indoor Championships in Houston.

Thoughts on today's match…
"I was pleased with the win and the energy in the doubles to open the match today. It was the first time for us to get Harry (Adams) out there and that makes our lineup very different with him and Shane playing at No. 1. It makes our doubles that much stronger. Allowing Jackson (Withrow) and Arthur (Rinderknech) at two makes for two really good doubles teams at the top. Add in Jordi (Arconada) and Max (Lunkin), who played really well today, and it makes for a complete lineup. The conditions were a little tough today with some swirling wind, but the guys showed some mental toughness and fought through that. We did a great job staying on top and winning first sets on every court really helps with the momentum."

On Harry's singles match today…
"It was big for us to have him back in the lineup today. It is his, Shane and Jackson's last go round and I really want them to make it count. It was great to have our senior leaders out there on the court, making a difference and scoring points for the team."

Thoughts on team moving forward into ITA Indoors…
"It was a good overall team effort today. The guys really had this in mind heading into the season, making the round of 16 at the best indoor tournament allows us to see where we are at and find out what we need to keep working on as we move closer to the SEC schedule and then the NCAA Tournament. Advancing to the ITA Indoor allows us to play three matches against some of the top teams around the country."
