A&M Finishes Season at No. 14 in Final ITA Rankings

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M men’s tennis team finished the season ranked No. 14 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s final team rankings. The Aggies, who began the season ranked No. 26, climbed as high as No. 11 with only one senior on the roster.

Under head coach Steve Denton, the Aggies advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA tournament for the seventh time in school history and the second time in the past three years before falling to Ohio State, 4-0.

The Aggies, who finished the 2012 season ranked 30th and began the season ranked 26th, made their 20th-consecutive and 21st overall NCAA tournament appearance and were seeded a No. 12 seed in the 64-team field. A&M knocked off Marist (4-0) and Texas (4-3) to earn a trip to Illinois for the NCAA championships.

In its first season as a member of the prestigious Southeastern Conference, the Texas A&M posted a 7-5 mark in conference action to claim the Western Division crown. The Aggies swept Mississippi State and Ole Miss on the final weekend of the regular season to claim the division title.

The SEC finished with nine teams in the final Top 25: Georgia (3), Tennessee (6), Kentucky (9), Ole Miss, (10), Mississippi State (11), Texas A&M (14), Vanderbilt (15), Florida (16), South Carolina (18) and LSU (22).
