LONGVIEW, Texas - The University of Texas at Tyler men’s tennis team opened the American Southwest Conference portion of its 2009 schedule by taking down LeTourneau, 6-3, on Wednesday in Longview.

The Patriots (2-0, 1-0) started the day by outlasting the YellowJackets in all three doubles matches. David Ashlock and Dustin Phillips won their match at No. 1, 8-5, while Robert Sajovich and Andrew Reznik picked up an 8-6 win at No. 2. Caleb Bulls and Dallas Darnell completed the sweep by winning their match at No. 3, 9-7, in extra games.

In singles action, the Patriots settled for an even split with LeTourneau (3-1, 0-1) as Sajovch, Bulls and Darnell all picked up wins to give UT Tyler the match victory.

The Patriots will now travel to West Texas this weekend to play three matches. UT Tyler will pull a triple-header by taking on McMurry, Hardin-Simmons and Howard Payne all on Saturday.
