RICHARDSON, Texas – Sophomore Robert Sajovich (Austin, Texas) and senior Beth Launius (LaGrange, Texas) of The University of Texas at Tyler tennis teams were named as American Southwest Conference Men’s & Women’s Tennis Players of the Week on Wednesday by the conference office.
The awards mark the fifth time this season a Patriot has received the women’s award and the third time one has received the men’s award.
Sajovich went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and doubles last week and helped UT Tyler to pair of wins over regional opponent Linfield and ASC rival Mississippi College. Sajovich is now 16-5 in singles play and 16-4 in doubles on the year.
Launius won her lone match on the week at both No. 1 singles and doubles, as the Patriots clinched a share of their fourth consecutive East Division title with a win over Mississippi. Headed into the final games of the 2009 season, Launius currently has a record of 13-7 in singles and 19-5 in doubles.
The men will return to action on Wednesday when they host ASC East foe Texas-Dallas at the Summers Tennis Center for their final home match of the season. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
