Come-from-behind singles victory sparks Tar Heels’ win over 12th-ranked Notre Dame
GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina sophomore Gina Suarez-Malaguti has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’ Tennis Player of the Week after helping the Tar Heels secure two crucial points in a 5-2 win over 12th-ranked Notre Dame.
Suarez-Malaguti, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., rallied from a set down for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win that moved UNC to within one point of clinching last Saturday’s match against the visiting Fighting Irish.
The singles victory followed a doubles round that saw Suarez-Malaguti team with fellow sophomore Zoe DeBruckyer for an 8-1 win over Rafael and Julie Sabacinski. Suarz-Malaguti remained unbeaten in singles and doubles thus far in the spring season.
Surarez-Maglaguti’s efforts helped the fifth-ranked Tar Heels improve to 5-0 as they prepare to play host to second-ranked Florida this Saturday.
