Racquet Club of Memphis Becomes New Home for Men's and Women's Tennis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis Athletic Director R.C. Johnson announced that an agreement has been reached making The Racquet Club of Memphis the official home for the University of Memphis men's and women's tennis programs.
"We are very pleased with the agreement we have been able to reach with the Racquet Club", said R.C. Johnson, the Director of Athletics. "Our men's and women's tennis teams will now compete in one of the finest tennis facilities in the country."
"We will have our own locker rooms for each of the teams, as well as a player lounge and meeting rooms for the coach's use. Given that we will have access to both indoor and outdoor courts the weather will no longer be a problem in getting matches completed in the spring months."
"A facility of this caliber will certainly aid our programs in recruiting and will enhance the future of Tiger tennis."
Along with The Racquet Club's 186,000 square feet of facilties, the Tigers will also have a newly renovated locker room facility for both the men's and women's programs, and will also have the club's salon area which will be used primarily as a player lounge. Memphis' tennis matches will be held at the club's six recently resurfaced outdoor top-of-the-line post-tension system hard courts and indoors on the club's 11 courts.
"This deal between the University of Memphis and The Racquet Club now means that we are able to call one of the nicest tennis facilities in the nation our home," said Memphis women's tennis head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "This is a win for the University of Memphis athletic department and Memphis Tiger supporters, it is a win for both tennis programs and it is a win for The Racquet Club of Memphis. Paul (Goebel) and I are very thankful to the athletic department staff and the Racquet Club of Memphis staff for everything they have done to help make this happen."
