Boxx/Nijssen Team Up For First Round Win In NCAA Doubles
Thursday, 05/21/2009

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Ole Miss tandem of freshman Kristi Boxx and sophomore Karen Nijssen advanced to the second round of doubles at the NCAA Championships Thursday with a three-set win over Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable of Princeton.

Boxx and Nijssen, ranked No. 16 in the nation, got off to a great start, breaking at 4-3 in the first set and serving it out for 6-3.  However, the Princeton duo broke right away in the second set and went on to win it 6-2 to even the match up.

The All-SEC pair came back and broke the Princeton team in the first game of the third set and never looked back, going on to win 6-2 and advance to a second round meeting against Csilla Borsanyi and Lenka Broosova of Baylor, who upset a seeded team in their first round match.  Boxx and Nijssen have now won six in a row.

Earlier in the day in singles, Boxx lost her second round singles match to the No. 2 seed, Miami’s Julia Cohen, 6-2, 6-3.
