OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 18 nationally ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team swept Murray State 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Gillom Sports Center to improve to 3-1 on the season. 

The Rebels took the doubles point to begin the match 1-0.  Abby Guthrie and Laura van de Stroet won 8-1 at No. 3 and then Connor Vogel and Gabby Rangel finished off their opponents 8-4 at No. 2.

Guthrie gave the Rebels a 2-0 lead, dominating MSU's Alexis Webb 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.   

Sophomore Kristi Boxx fought off Angela McGahee to win the first set 7-6(4) and then shut the Racer down 6-0 in the second to make it 3-0 Ole Miss.

Junior Karen Nijssen came back to defeat Cassidy Cunitz in three sets.  After losing the first set 6-3, Nijssen picked up her game and won easily in the second and third sets 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the Rebel victory.

"This was a solid win," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We got pushed in some matches and had to come from behind at one and two singles.  I am proud of them for turning those matches around, because we were getting outplayed in the beginning.  We were able to right the ship and finish strong.

"In the middle of the lineup, I thought we played really solid. Abby, Connor and Gabby played really solid tennis.  It was great for Sole' to get a match, because she needs more matches.  She got better as the match went on.  I am glad she pulled out a victory in three sets."

Vogel was never tested in her match against MSU's Ashley Canty at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0.  Rangel increased the overall score to 5-0 by downing Lindsey Wiseman 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5.

Senior Soledad Podlipnik completed the shutout with a 6-7(2), 6-4, 10-3 win over Lyndsay Ottosen at No. 6.

The Rebels return to action Feb. 20 at home against Texas Tech.
